Mesitas Recent Period Household Dataset |
This dataset complements the dissertation Changing Bases of Power: The Transition from Regional Classic to Recent in the Alto Magdalena (Colombia) by Francisco Ernesto Romano-Gómez (which can be freely downloaded from the University of Pittsburgh's Electronic Theses and Dissertations Database). It provides detailed information about artifacts recovered from excavations of Recent Period households within the Mesitas community of the Alto Magdalena, Colombia. The data are discussed in full in the dissertation, whose contents are as follows:

Numeric data are provided in two file formats. Comma-delimited text files should be easy to import into spreadsheet, database, and statistical programs for manipulation and analysis. Excel spreadsheets are easier to browse, and can also be imported into many programs. The numeric data files are as follows:
Ceramic Inventory: Ceramic counts by type for each excavated context. | Barranquilla sherds vessel form information: Vessel form and thickness for Barranquilla Buff rim sherds. |
Ground stone inventory: Ground stone counts by tool type for each excavated context. | Chipped stone inventory: Chipped stone counts by material and tool type for each excavated context. |
Detailed drawings of the terminal floorplan of each of the 10 excavated households are also provided as AutoCAD (Release 12) .DXF files.
