The data file COLCER.TXT contains data on sherds recovered from sites where systematic surface collections were conducted. Each line represents one collection unit. There are 143 lines, each with 7 variables separated by commas. The variables are, in the following order:
1 | Site number |
2 | Northing (within-site coordinate system) |
3 | Easting (within-site coordinate system) |
4 | Collection unit size in square meters |
5 | Total number of sherds recovered |
6 | Weight of total sherds recovered (in ounces) |
7 | Weight of total sherds recovered (in grams) |
The first line of the file, for example, looks like this:
LJ-A,110,120,4,15,1.5,44
This indicates that in site LJ-A, located at 110N and 120E in the site's internal coordinate system, a unit of 4 square meters was collected; 15 sherds weighing 1.5 ounces or 44 grams were recovered.
The last (143rd) line of the file is:
B-7,100,100,10,150,30.2,858
This indicates that in site B-7, located at 100N and 100E in the site's internal coordinate system, a unit of 10 square meters was collected; 150 sherds weighing 30.2 ounces or 858 grams were recovered.
