The data files CERAMICPERIOD.TXT and CERAMICPERIOD.XLS contain the number of sherds of each period from the different proveniences excavated at El Hatillo. CERAMICPERIOD.TXT is a comma delimited ASCII text file, which should be easy to import into spreadsheet, database, and statistical programs for manipulation and analysis. CERAMICPERIOD.XLS contains the same data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet which is easier to browse, and can also be imported into many programs. Each line on the comma delimited file represents one provenience. There are 195 lines, each with 16 variables separated by commas. The variables are, in the following order:
1 | Area |
2 | Zone (Stratum) |
3 | Excavation Unit(s) |
4 | Number of Mendoza Period sherds |
5 | Number of EL Hatillo Period sherds |
6 | Number of Parita Period sherds |
7 | Number of Macaracas Period sherds |
8 | Number of Conte Period sherds |
9 | Number of Cubita Period sherds |
10 | Number of Tonosi Period sherds |
11 | Number of La Mula Period sherds |
12 | Number of Parita/Hatillo Period sherds |
13 | Number of Macaracas/Parita Period sherds |
14 | Number of Conte/Macaracas Period sherds |
15 | Number of Cubita/Conte Period sherds |
16 | Number of Macaracas/Parita/El Hatillo Period sherds |
The first line of the ASCII text file, for example, looks like this:
A,2,Unit A1,,,,,2,1,,,,,3,,
Which means that the sherds belong to Area A, Zone (Stratum) 2, Excavation Unit(s) A1. In this provenience there are 0 Mendoza sherds, 0 EL Hatillo, 0 Parita, 0 Macaracas, 2 Conte, 1 Cubita, 0 Tonosi, 0 La Mula, 0 Parita/Hatillo, 0 Macaracas/Parita, 3 Conte/Macaracas, 0 Cubita/Conte, and 0 Macaracas/Parita/El Hatillo sherds.
On the other hand, the last, or 195th, line of the ASCII text file is:
F,13,Unit F11,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Which means that the sherds belong to Area F, Zone (Stratum) 13, Excavation Unit(s) F11. In this provenience there are 0 Mendoza sherds, 0 EL Hatillo, 0 Parita, 0 Macaracas, 0 Conte, 0 Cubita, 0 Tonosi, 0 La Mula, 0 Parita/Hatillo, 0 Macaracas/Parita, 0 Conte/Macaracas, 0 Cubita/Conte, and 0 Macaracas/Parita/El Hatillo sherds.
