Graphical Results of Exploratory Statistical Analyses

Graphical Results of Exploratory Statistical Analyses

This section presents graphical results from several exploratory data analyses (hierarchical clustering trees, multidimensional scalings, etc.) carried out on the two data tables (portable X-Ray Fluorescence and X-Ray Diffraction) provided in the Numeric Data section of this dataset. It not only includes the exploratory analyses that were rejected because they were deemed not useful or clear enough, but also more details about those that were finally used in the dissertation associated with this dataset (presented here as Figure 1.a. in Section 1, and Figures 4.a.iii. and 4.b.i. in Section 4). Figure captions provide brief comments on why each graphs was considered better and more appropriate than others in the presentation and interpretation of results. The parameters by which different graphs were created by statistical tools (through the use of the R Statistics software) are also provided.

You may click on any of the links below or the tabs above for more information on procedures and results:

  1. Hierarchical clustering trees (dendrograms) of geochemical concentrations for the sample of 715 sherds.
  2. Hierarchical clustering trees (dendrograms) of mineralogical proportions for the sample of 171 sherds.
  3. Two-dimensional representations of multidimensional scaling analyses on geochemical variation based on site distance, use type. vessel shape, and paste type.
  4. Two-dimensional representations of multidimensional scaling analyses on geochemical variation based on compositional groups.
  5. Summary comparisons of mineralogical groups and areas.
