Demography Estimates

The data files DEMOGRAPHY.TXT and DEMOGRAPHY.XLS provide ceramic counts broken down by type for all ceramic material recovered during survey. DEMOGRAPHY.TXT is a comma delimited ASCII text file; DEMOGRAPHY.XLS contains the same data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. Each line in the ASCII file represents one survey collection unit (either a surface collection or a shovel test pit). There are 97 lines, each with 13 variables separated by commas. The variables are listed in the following order:

1 Collection Lot ID
2 Early Catanga Period: Area-Density Index
3 Early Catanga Period: Minimum Estimated persons per ha
4 Early Catanga Period: Maximum Estimated persons per ha
5 Early Catanga Period: Estimated Average Persons per ha
6 Middle Catanga Period: Area-Density Index
7 Middle Catanga Period: Minimum Estimated persons per ha
8 Middle Catanga Period: Maximum Estimated persons per ha
9 Middle Catanga Period: Estimated Average Persons per ha
10 Late Catanga Period: Area-Density Index
11 Late Catanga Period: Minimum Estimated persons per ha
12 Late Catanga Period: Maximum Estimated persons per ha
13 Late Catanga Period: Estimated Average Persons per ha

The first line of the ASCII text file, for example, looks like this:

CA-BR-LT-01,0.0,0,0,0,2.2,1,1,1,0.0,0,0,0

This means that at the site designated CA-BR-LT-01, the Early Catanga Period Population Density Index was 0.0. The Early Catanga Minimum estimated people present per ha was 0, Early Catanga maximum estimated people present per ha was 0, and Early Catanga average estimated people present per ha was 0. The Middle Catanga Period Population Density Index was 2.2. Middle Catanga Minimum estimated people present per ha was 1, Middle Catanga Maximum estimated people present per ha was 1, and Middle Catanga average estimated people present per ha was 1. The Late Catanga Period Population Density Index was 0.0. The Late Catanga Minimum estimated people present per ha was 0, Late Catanga Maximum estimated people present per ha was 0, and Late Catanga average estimated people present per ha was 0.
