The data files LITHICS.TXT and LITHICS.XLS provide lithic artifact counts for each collection lot. LITHICS.TXT is a comma delimited ASCII text file, LITHICS.XLS contains the same data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. Each line in the ASCII file provides the number of artifacts by type. There are 497 lines, each with 11 variables separated by commas. The variables are listed in the following order:
The first line of the ASCII text file, for example, looks like this:
2A6,1080747,876107,3,0,0,0,0,0,0,
Which means that the sherds came from collection lot 2A6. The North-East corner of the collection lot is located at Easting UTM coordinate 1080747, and Northing UTM coordinate 876107. Up to 3 collection units were needed to gather the minimum of 40 artifacts required by the field methodology. No lithic artifacts were collected, and no other type of artifact was noted either.
The last (497th) line of the ASCII text file is:
31B11,1082048,875876,3,0,0,0,0,0,0,
Which means that the sherds came from collection lot 31B11. The North-East corner of the collection lot is located at Easting UTM coordinate 1082048, and Northing UTM coordinate 875876. Up to 3 collection units were needed to gather the minimum of 40 artifacts required by the field methodology. No lithic artifacts were collected, and no other type of artifact was noted either.
