Survey Lot Data

The data files SURVLOTS.TXT and SURVLOTS.XLS contain data on all survey lots. SURVLOTS.TXT is an ASCII text file; SURVLOTS.XLS contains the same data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. Each line represents one survey lot. There are 2,123 lines in the text file, each with seven variables separated by commas. The variables are, in the following order:

1
Lot number
2
Vegetation density: H=High, M=Medium, L=Low, N=None
3
Collection technique: S=Surface collection; SP=Shovel probe
4
Number of sherds of Bermejo
5
Number of sherds of Pinturo
6
Number of sherds of Cosanga
7
Number of unclassified sherds

The first line of the ASCII text file, for example, looks like this:

1,H,SP,0,0,14,0

This indicates that the data are for Lot 1, collected in an area with high density of vegetation, by shovel probe. There were no Bermejo sherds, no Pituro sherds, 14 Cosanga sherds, and no unclassified sherds.

The last (2,123rd) line of the ASCII text file is:

2267,H,SP,0,0,4,0

This indicates that the data are for Lot 2267, collected in an area where vegetation was dense, by a shovel probe. There were no Bermejo sherds, no Pituro sherds, 4 Cosanga sherds, and no unclassified sherds.
