Surface Collection Units used for the Intra-Sector Analysis

The data files SURFCOLUNITS.TXT and SURFCOLUNITS.XLS contain the sherd counts and sector location for those units utilized in the intra-sector analysis of ceramics carried out in the dissertation associated with this dataset. Only units with a total of at least 20 sherds were included to ensure sufficient sample size. The data corresponds to that shown in Table B.2. (pp. 421) of the dissertation. SURFCOLUNITS.TXT is an ASCII text file; SURFCOLUNITS.XLS contains the same data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. Each line represents one collection unit. There are 82 lines in the text file, each with 3 variables separated by commas. The variables are, in the following order:

1

Sector

2

Unit

3

Count

The first line of the ASCII text file, for example, looks like this:

F,1,44

This indicates that the data pertains to sherds collected in sector F, unit 1. It contained a total of 44 sherds.

The last, or 82nd, line of the ASCII text file is:

A,138,77

This indicates that the data pertains to sherds collected in sector A, unit 138. It contained a total of 77 sherds.
