Yahuay Alta Community Dataset |
The data files ARTDENSE.TXT and ARTDENSE.XLS provide artifact densities for surface collection units carried out at the Yahuay Alta Community. The data corresponds to Table B.3. (pp.425) of the dissertation associated with this dataset. ARTDENSE.TXT is an ASCII text file; ARTDENSE.XLS contains the same data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. Each line represents one collection lot. There are 146 lines in the text file, each with 6 variables separated by commas. The variables are, in the following order:
1 |
Sector |
2 |
Unit |
3 |
Area in Square Meters |
4 |
Number of Ceramic Sherds |
5 |
Number of Lithic Fragments |
6 |
Artifact Density per Square Meter |
The first line of the ASCII text file, for example, looks like this:
F,1,100,44,15,0.59
This indicates that the data pertains to sector F, unit 1. This comprised an area of 100 square meters and contained 44 ceramic sherds and 15 lithic fragments, with a total artifact density of 0.59 per square meter.
The last, or 146th, line of the ASCII text file is:
A,138,29.9,77,7,2.81
This indicates that the data pertains to sector A, unit 138. This comprised an area of 29.9 square meters and contained 77 ceramic sherds and 7 lithic fragmetns, with a total artifact density of 2.81 per meter square.
